A Day of Rest

lions_1.jpg

Today is Sunday. I don’t work out on Sunday. I think you need at least one day of rest from fitness.  I do plan on staying on my diet, though.  I know there are some people that ‘take the weekend off.’  I don’t think the weekend should be a free-for-all.  Why would you want all your hard work the rest of the week to be lost on two days?  Anyway, I try to maintain that Sunday is family day in our house.  We try to spend the day together and fit in at least one family activity in the middle of all the household chores we have to catch up with.  Today our family activity was going to the mall to get the kids some Fall clothes, and then out to dinner.  I am motivated.  I have no desire to cheat tonight.

Victory over Temptation

victory_1.jpg

Today I will put myself to the test.  Our neighborhood picnic is tonight.  I have to bring a dessert.  The only thing in my fridge dessert worthy is a premade-roll of Pillsburry Chocolate Chip cookies.  Easy, but unhealthy.  I decided against dragging the kids to the market to get something else. Will I be able to resist raw cookie dough?  yes.  Will I be able to resist warm and gooey chocolate chip cookies?  That, I don’t know.  I go through my day pumped about the diet and thinking about how I will fill up at the picnic.  Salads, fruit, grilled chicken, passing on the white bun if there is one, etc.  Well.  If only my imagination came true.  There was only one healthy thing there: frozen fruit.  ick.  I’m all for frozen fruit in a smoothie, but defrosted and slimy fruit?  No thanks.  I fed the kids, and had one fried drumstick as my cheat.  I was so annoyed by the fact that there was nothing healthy there, I didn’t want to eat anything at all.  My cookies were a hit, even with the grease soaking through a double-bagged lunch bag.

I Want a New Scale

scale_1.jpg

I weighed in the same today.  I want a new scale though.  It seems that I have to weigh myself 3-4 different times every morning to get a consistent number.  I’ll let the machine turn off each time. I don’t get it.  I wonder if the batteries are low?  I’ve been sleeping.  I think my lack of sleep was due to my drinking less, and my antidepressant working differently.  I feel a lot better today.  Yoga was good.  Very relaxing.  My therapist told me I should take a yoga class at least once a week to relieve stress.  I think I’ll just do that.  I felt energized enough at the end to run a mile.  I ran because I wanted to decrease the amount of time I spent in the gym.  If I would’ve walked it would’ve taken me at least 15 min.   I love my gym.  I go to Club Fitness.  The child care is free, and the girls that work there are awesome!  The fact that the kids ask to go to the gym is a motivator for me too, although sometimes I just tell them, “no, we’re not going!”

Our Semester Begins

bus_1.jpg

Down another pound this morning! (141.5)  Tuesdays and Thursdays will be my busiest days of the week.  I say, “will be” because today is the start of our school semester.  My son starts pre-school, Sports Essentials, and home schooling one day a week. My daughter and I have mommy and me gymnastics at The Little Gym and she goes to a Mom’s day out program once a week.  Since I know I’ll be out all morning, I’ll take a banana with me as my snack before errands. I’ll come home to make my chicken salad for lunch, then I’ll have to go pick him up. Here’s a tip: I’ve noticed that if I take the steps to prepare a meal well before the meal-time arrives, I’m more likely to eat what I have planned. Too often, I have told myself, “I’m hungry. I was planning on this certain healthy meal, but nachos would be so easy to make” BOO! Well, my tongue says “yum,”  my mind says, “you go, you rebel”, but my stomach says, “keep this up and I’m not going to let you button your favorite jeans!”
